For the past ten years, while the perspective of abolition is on the low, Tunisia has known an increase in its number of death penalty sentences. The detention conditions of prisoners, including the ones sentenced to death penalty has gotten worse. The latter being worrying (isolation, poor hygiene, an increase in mental and physical diseases amongst prisoners) and on the rise since Covid-19 pandemic.
International Day in Support of Victims of Torture : the opportunity to highlight the link between torture and death penalty
The International Day in Support of Victims of Torture and the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Convention Against Torture are opportunities to remind that the death penalty is not compatible with the prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.
